Moving to Germany to become an engineer
Following my dream to become an engineer, I finally moved to Germany and started studying “Technomathematik”. I had the aspiration of being an engineer with a deep theoretical knowledge of mathematics. However, after a semester I realised that I wanted to do something more practical and hands on. The Mathematics I learned were extremely interesting, but I found the engineering and coding lectures significantly more engaging and motivating. For that reason, I decided to enrol in General Engineering Science, which is considered one of the most challenging courses at the university as it gathers demanding courses from several engineering fields such as Mechanics, Electronics, Programming, even Physics and Chemistry.
A significant amount of sweat, coffee and nights at the library I wrote my thesis on a light-based homing system for a robotic arm. This project made me realise that my personality did not match 100% which that of a typical engineer. After some personality test and some soul searching I decided that a career in management or consulting would be ideal for me.
To keep my engineering doors open and, at the same time, set myself up for a career that would make me happy, I decided to study my Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering & Management a the TUHH. During this time I took courses like Project Management, Corporate Entrepreneurship & Growth, Finance, Business Decisions with Machine Learning that prepared me for a career in management. I also had the chance to learn about German literature and culture by reading Kant, Nietzsche and discussing about what consciousness is.
